If you are having problems elsewhere, this might be a better source for your 1940 family searches.
After the NARA/Archives.com site became better, I began to search my hometown (the 1940 ED finder was of little use to me because my grandparents had moved) and, after searching 833 pages I finally found my grandparents, me and my by then divorced mother.
