Update 9/21/2008: The photo is of Thomas (Stonewall) Jackson Coffey, born Sep. 20, 1866 in Denmark, Russell Co., KY, died Dec. 21, 1945 in KS. He married Mattie Payne, daughter of William Pigg Payne and Mary Jane Tarter. Mattie was born Jul. 8, 1866 in Russell Co., and died Jul. 24, 1951 in Harper Co., KS. Thanks to Kevin Coffey for the photograph. Thomas was his Great-Grandfather.

Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson Coffey married my great-grandmother Mattie Payne in 1897. She was originally married to my great-grandfather William Bruce Portwood. They married in 1890 in Wise County, Texas and had two children. Very sadly, three weeks after my grandfather (Thomas Bruce Portwood) was born in 1893 William died. Left with two small children, Mattie moved back to be with her family in Kentucky where she met and married Mr. Coffey. They went on to have several children.
