1. Mary Ann Elizabeth Coffey was born on 13 February 1860 in Nelson Co., VA. She lived in the household with Henry Bowman in South River Dist., Augusta Co., VA on 15 April 1930. She lived with her daughter Pearl in South River Dist., Augusta Co., VA on 10 April 1940. Mary died on 18 March 1946 at the age of 86 in Love, Augusta Co., VA and was buried at Hewitt-Coffey Cemetery in Love, Augusta Co., VA.13

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Hewitt, 85, of Route 1, Stuarts Draft, widow of the late Joseph C. Hewitt, died at 3:15 p.m. yesterday, at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Mary Cox, 343 Arch Avenue, this city. She had been here with her daughter for just the past week and had been ill only a short time.

Born in Augusta County, February 13, 1861 [sic], the daughter of the late Morris P. and Millie Coffey, she is survived by the following sons: Bert S. Hewitt, of Waynesboro, Route 2, who was crossing the English Channel on his way back to the States from a cattle trip abroad for UNRRA when he received word of his mother's death; Leonard Hewitt, of Waynesboro; Jake and Mac Hewitt, both of Lyndhurst; three daughters, Mrs. Mary Cox at whose home she died; Mrs. Lillie Quick, of Hopewell; and Mrs. Pearl Arnold, of Stuarts Draft, Route 1; one brother, Nick Coffey, of Mt. Sidney; and one sister, Mrs. Alice Coffey of Stuarts Draft; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are to be held at the Love Christian Church, Love, at a time and date to be announced pending word from Bert S. Hewitt, now abroad.

Mrs. Ida Hewitt, 91, of Route 2, Stuarts Draft, died at 5 a.m. today.

Mrs. Hewitt was a member of the Mountain Top Christian Church at Love.

She was the widow of Hause Hewitt, who died in 1926, and had made her home with Mr. and Mrs. Harry Plummer since 1929.

Born in Augusta County Oct. 27, 1881, she was a daughter of the late Francis and Sallie Snead Campbell.

Surviving are four sons, Dubert Hewitt and Earsie Hewitt, both of Lyndhurst, Russell Hewitt of Route 2, Stuarts Draft, and Thurman Hewitt of Waynesboro; four daughters, Mrs. Harry (Nellie) Plummer of Route 2, Stuarts Draft, Mrs. Walter (Thelma) Henderson of Waynesboro, Mrs. Thomas (Lillian) Moran of Route 1, Stuarts Draft, and Mrs. Harman (Maudie) Gray of Lyndhurst; three sisters, Mrs. Julia Harris of Williamson, W. Va., Mrs. Solone Henderson of Waynesboro and Mrs. Lelia Small of Lyndhurst; also 19 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Mt. Vernon Church of the Brethren, conducted by the Rev. Guy Stump, the Rev, Grant Simmons and the Rev. Roy Kiser, with burial in the church cemetery.

The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.

Friends will be received from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Etter Funeral Home.

Virgil Lee Coffey, 74, died Tuesday night at the home of his, Elmer F. Coffey in Lancaster, Pa.
Mr. Coffey was born in Love, the son of the late Floyd Lee and Mary Jane Weaver Coffey. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Hewitt Coffey, who died in 1935.

He had been making his home in Lancaster for the past eight years. He was a retired employee of the Lehigh Portland Cement Company of Fordwick, where he was employed for 25 years. He is a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Augusta Springs.

Mr. Coffey is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Hessie L. Maser Jr. of Lancaster; four sons, Thomas L. and Elmer F. of Lancaster, Zandy A. of Staunton, and William L. Coffey of Richmond.

Also, six sisters, Mrs. Martha Arnold, Mrs. Mary Etta Everitt, Mrs. Theresa Coffey and Mrs. Ella Fitzgerald of Lyndhurst, Mrs. Minnie A. Campbell of Stuarts Draft, and Mrs. Murlvinia Gregory of Waynesboro; one brother, Zandy Coffey of Lyndhurst and ten grandchildren.

The body will arrive in Waynesboro Friday morning and will remain at Etter Funeral Home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Etter Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery.

LYNDHURST - Ralph Eugene Hewitt went to be with the Lord at 6 a.m. Thursday (Nov. 15, 2001) at his residence at 1197 Love Road.

He was born Oct. 14, 1929, at Love, to parents Mack and Allie M. Hewitt.

He retired from Wayne-Tex in March 1992 with 32 years of service.

He was a devoted father and a member of Mt. Top Christian Church where he served as an elder for many years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Irvan; two sisters, Charlotte Quick and Elizabeth Truslow; four brothers, Mac Hewitt Jr., Manuel Hewitt, Carl Hewitt and Guy Hewitt.

On Jan. 28, 1950, he married Virgie Fix Hewitt, who survives him. In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Jeffrey S. Hewitt of Waynesboro; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Dick Freed, and Jenny and Danny Kiser of Stuarts Draft; six grandchildren, Carmen Hewitt of Greensboro, N.C., Justin and Kyle Freed of Waynesboro, Daniel and Kelsey Kiser of Stuarts Draft, and Maria Irvan, who made her home with her grandparents; and four sisters, Margie Hufford of Waynesboro, Beulah Patterson of Crozet, Betty Campbell of Stuarts Draft and Dottie Lesenbe of North Carolina.

A service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at Reynolds Funeral Service of Waynesboro by Ray Coffey, Mike Waters and Joe Nelson. Burial will follow at Mt. Top Christian Church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Landen Coffey Jr., Richard Coffey, Elwood Quick, David Truslow, Ronnie Taggart, Steve Barrett, Don Alexander and Harold Hewitt.

Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Coffey, Steve Coffey, Guy Fix, Danny Quick, Ashley Campbell, Henry S. Day and friends of Mt. Top Christian Church.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Reynolds Funeral Service of Waynesboro.

Jacob Clay "Jake" Hewitt and Eva Mae Coffey were married on 28 November 1915 in Nelson Co., VA.53 They lived with her parents in Nelson Co., VA on 28 January 1920. Mrs. Eva Mae "Granny" Hewitt, 97, of 2121 Cortland St., died Thursday morning (Dec. 1) at Liberty Nursing Home.

She was born in Love on March 4, 1891, a daughter of the late George M. and Sarah Grove Coffey.

She was a member of Mountain Top Christian Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob Clay Hewitt, on Sept. 7, 1985, and by her son, Lester Hewitt, on Dec. 17, 1962.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Elmer C. Hewitt and Madelyn Hewitt, and one granddaughter, Ms. Jackie Hewitt, all of Waynesboro.
A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Mountain Top Christian Church by the Rev. Elwood Campbell, the Rev. Charles Ramsey and the Rev. Phillip Forehand. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to the funeral.
Active pallbearers will be Saylor Coffey Jr., Forrest Coffey, Ralph Hewitt, Houston Coffey, Richard Coffey, David Coffey, Phil Thompson, Ottis Crump and Ted H. falls.

Ray L. Hewitt, 77, of 817 Rosser Ave., died Wednesday evening in Waynesboro Community Hospital.

He was born in Augusta County, April 4, 1908, a son of Bert and Josie Bridge Hewitt.

Mr. Hewitt was employed at Du Pont Co. for 30 years prior to retirement in 1967. He was a charter member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and had served as an elder and trustee.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Polly Schumacher Hewitt of Waynesboro; two sisters, Mrs. Virginia Wyant of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Mrs. Pauline Madarasz of Long Island, N. Y.; four brothers, E. M. Hewitt of Swoope, W. O. Hewitt, F. C. Hewitt and W. C. Hewitt, all of Waynesboro; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Atwell E. Hewitt, in 1960.

A service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in McDow Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. M. Bland Dudley. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.

Kathleen Walker Hewitt, 91, of Waynesboro, died Thursday, February 4, 2010, at Summit Square Retirement Community, Waynesboro.

She was born September 29, 1918, in Hinton, West Virginia, a daughter of Audrey Oakley and Nannie Ellen Dobbins Walker.

She was a long time member of First Presbyterian Church, serving as a Deacon, Elder, Pastor's Aide, and Sunday School teacher. She was also a member of the Rosecliff Garden Club for 60 years, an avid bridge player, and enjoyed her many friends and the outdoors.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wilson C. Hewitt, in 1993; and a brother, A. Max Walker.

Surviving are her children, Joan W. Noell of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and Michael C. Hewitt and his wife, Laura, of Newark, Delaware; a brother, Elden E. Walker of Columbia, South Carolina; six grandchildren, Kathleen Noell Themides, Leslie Noell, Betsy Noell, Trevor Hewitt, Megan Hewitt Donahue, and Jon-Michael Lemon; six great grandchildren, Kathleen, Michael, and Anne Themides, James Haley, Gray Jackson-Noell, and Walker Donahue; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, February 5, 2010, at First Presbyterian Church in Waynesboro, by the Reverend Dr. Glen Holman. Interment will be private.

He was a trustee for Fishburn Military School in Waynesboro.

Mrs. Hewitt was a member of Mt. Top Christian Church.

Mrs. Hewitt was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Survivors include one grandson, Ernie Hewitt of Lyndhurst, one great-grandson, Travis Hewitt and his mother Jo Ann Hewitt of Waynesboro, one great-great-grandson, Travis Hewitt II of Waynesboro, nieces, nephews and many special friends.
