There was another Martin Coffey in KY. He is believed to be a son of Chesley and Jane Cleveland Coffey. This Martin was born Dec. 15, 1762 in Essex Co., VA and died Nov. 27, 1867 in Wayne Co., KY and married Nancy Heriford
James is said to have married Martha (Patsy) Tucker Jun. 30, 1836 in Wayne Co. She was born Dec. 7, 1818 in Wayne Co., and died Mar. 7, 1877 in Lincoln Co. They had at least one child, a son Francis Marion Coffey, born Mar. 27, 1840, died Jan. 13, 1933 in Jackson Co., KS. Francis married Permelia Jane Hughes on May 26, 1865 in Lincoln Co. Permelia was born May 11, 1846 in Lincoln Co., and died Oct. 28, 1950 in Jackson Co., KS.
Francis and Permelia had at least 10 children:
- Charles H., born Feb. 8,. 1867
- Annie C., born Aug. 13, 1869, died Dec. 3, 1962
- Belle, born Sep. 7, 1871, died 1933

In my research we have Martin marring Nancy Phelps in Madison county, Ky. 1798. Mary Ann-1799, Martin-1808, and Elizabeth-1811, were their children. I also have Jane Hereford married to James Meadows, who were Mary Ann (Coffey) Meadows inlaws
That info agrees with info that I have in my Edward Coffey Project files. At least to me, he remains a mystery. Marvin Coffey wrote in his research on James Bluford Coffey:
"Another "mystery" Coffey is Martin. According to an old Bible record [footnote 56 in source] he was born September 15, 1762 and either in Virginia or North Carolina [footnote 57]. He appears in Green county Kentucky as early as 1799 (tax list) and is on the Adair county tax lists from 1802 to 1807. He is later found on records in Wayne, Warren, and finally Russell county where he died November 27, 1867, age 105. He is probably the Martin who married Nancy Phelps August 17, 1798 in Madison county Kentucky. He married 2 or 3 times and one of the marriages was on December 1, 1817 to Nancy Hansford. They had a son James, born September 7, 1818 who married Martha (Patsy) Tucker. The latter were the parents of Moses Coffey, born August 6, 1843, who lived in Casey county Kentucky. Because of the close association in Madison, Green, Adair and Russell counties it may be that he belongs to the Chesley Coffey family."
