Walter Castella Coffey

Walter Castella Coffey was president of the University of Minnesota from 1941-1945.

He grew up in Hartsville, Bartholomew Co., Indiana where he and his family raised Shropshire-Southdown sheep. He received a two year degree from Franklin College, and for the next six years taught in various Indiana schools. At age 30 he took the job as "herdsman" at the University of Illinois.

I would like to hear from anyone who has this Walter in their family.

Read more about this interesting Coffey by clicking on the title link.

Walter Castella Coffey was my great uncle, the brother of my grandfather, Joel Simmonds Coffey. I know little more than that about him.
